Armed police descend on a Tesco car park to arrest two suspects

Armed police descended on a Tesco car park in Sunderland on Sunday morning to arrest two suspects.

Officers arrested a man and a woman at the supermarket car park on Newcastle Road at around 11am.

The pair were wanted in connection with an incident in Houghton on Friday, police said.

They both remained in custody as of Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly after 11am today (Sunday) officers attended Tesco Express car park, Newcastle Road, Sunderland, and arrested two people who were wanted following an incident in Houghton on December 11.

“The 30-year-old man and 26-year-old woman both remain in police custody at this time.”
