“Tens of thousands snapped up tickets for the global superstar’s North East double, with hospitality packages equally popular as concert-goers secured their seat for an unmissable weekend on Wearside.

“With limited availability across Saturday and Sunday, tickets are now on sale for Ed’s third Stadium of Light date, which will take place on Thursday 2 June – a Bank Holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Announcing the sale of the initial two shows, the chart-topping star, who has played at Newcastle’s St James’ Park in the past, shared his excitement at visiting Sunderland with fans in a video.

He said: “Sunderland I’m going to play your city for the first time in my career. I am very very excited to come.

“When I played up north last time it was mental and I think you guys are going to be more mental this time.

“So check out the tickets on my website and I hope you enjoy it.”

The June 2 date comes ahead of the other two performances, set for Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4 next year.

The first leg of the tour will kick off in Cork in Ireland on April 28, 2022.

Meanwhile, fans have been warned to make sure to only buy tickets through official routes, as the singer vows to maintain a ‘strict stance’ against anyone using unofficial secondary ticketing sites in a bid to stop fans being exploited by touts.
