Macmillan Coffee Mornings around Newcastle where you can enjoy a cuppa and cake this week

Bakers are at action stations this week in preparation for a cancer charity’s fundraiser of the year.

Ingredients are being whipped up and mugs and plates laid out in readiness for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday.

The annual event is Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraiser and plays a vital role in its work to support people with the disease.

It’s an open invitation to everybody to sign up to host a coffee morning and help boost the charity’s coffers, whether by hosting a group of pals in the garden, sharing a coffee during a Zoom get-together or even just enjoying a takeaway cake and cuppa with someone.

Last year, even in the mist of the pandemic, Macmillan’s UK-wide coffee day – which has M&S Food as a headline partner – raised more than £10m and this year it is hoping to top that.

Those who sign up online to take part will receive a fundraising kit with some top tips to help them get started.

And their event doesn’t even need to involve collecting cash in return for the cakes and coffee as the pack includes QR code stickers for guests to scan so that they can safely donate directly online.

Here are 10 coffee mornings featured on Macmillan’s website which are due to take place in Newcastle and across the wider North East. The charity offers flexibility with dates for the chosen events so, while most are on Friday, September 24, there are three happening on Saturday, September 25.
