Airlines in talks to take on axed easyJet international flights from Newcastle Airport
Talks are under way with airlines over taking on the international flights axed by easyJet from Newcastle International Airport.
The budget airline announced on Monday that is closing its North East base alongside operations at London Stansted and Southend at the end of the month, putting 670 jobs at risk.
easyJet currently has three aircraft based at Newcastle Airport and operates up to 79 departures per week to popular holiday destinations including Alicante, Barcelona, Corfu, Malaga and Split.
But the airline has decided to scrap all international flights from the region from September 1, putting thousands of holidays in jeopardy.
