North East pervert who repeatedly carried out sex act at living room window spared prison

Roy Fella, of Sunderland, carried out the dirty deed in clear view of anyone who happened to be looking towards his home

A pervert who left witnesses shocked and appalled by repeatedly standing at his living room window carrying out a sex act has been spared prison. Roy Fella was spotted doing the dirty deed in plain view of anyone unfortunate enough to be looking.

His actions were witnessed on nine occasions, sometimes early in the morning and sometimes around tea-time. A judge deferred sentence on Fella last July to give him a chance to prove he could stay out of trouble, which he has complied with.

Now he has been back at Newcastle Crown Court for his case to be finalised. He was sentenced to a two-year community order and he must sign the sex offenders register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

During the previous hearing, Matthew Hopkins, prosecuting, told the court: “The defendant would stand at his sitting room window with the blinds open and would masturbate while naked, sometimes in the morning around 7.30 and sometimes later in the evening, about 5 or 6pm, tea-time.”

One witness said in a victim impact statement: “I was totally shocked by what I was seeing. It took a few times before I contacted the police. It’s a busy street with lots of kids passing.

“I’m shocked by the whole experience and would not want anyone to witness what I did. I believe this man to be disgusting and it’s quite worrying what he will do next.”

Another woman said: “I feel angry and shocked by the male and his actions. Members of the public should not have to witness these vile acts he was performing at his window.

“I saw women and children pass when he was masturbating. I was worried a child might see those inappropriate actions. I don’t know what was going through his mind when he was doing this. I really don’t know what he was thinking.”

Another woman said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I don’t know what he was thinking or what else he might be up to.”

Fella, 52, of Sunderland, pleaded guilty to ten counts of outraging public decency, including nine occasions when he was carrying out the sex act and one when he was standing at the window naked. He also admitted three offences of possessing 84 indecent images of children, involving youngsters aged between six and 14.

David Callan, defending, said: “Why a man of good character starts to behave like this when he is 50 is a mystery to him as well as to us. There’s no evidence it’s linked to the recent stroke he had.

“He presents with deep shame about his behaviour and has a clear intention to avoid any similar conduct.

“While there were children around there’s no evidence any child saw what happened, but I accept they could have done.”
