Sunderland Empire has wasted no time in announcing next year’s festive pantomime to excited theatre-goers and show-lovers in the region.
On their official Facebook page, the Empire broke the news on Wednesday morning that Aladdin will be returning to the High Street West main stage for 2022-23’s Christmas panto.
Starring ‘Tyneside Institution’ Miss Rory as Widow Twankey, and ‘Geordie raconteur’ Tom Whalley for the third year in a row, the family-friendly adaptation of the Disney classic will take to the stage from December 9 2022 – running through until January 2 2023.
And promising ‘stunning sets and costumes’, the panto will likely attract a further star casting which will be announced in the future.
In an announcement on their website, ATG Tickets wrote: “We don’t want to rub it in, but if you’re wishing for a gem of a family pantomime for Christmas 2022, then your wish is our command!
“Back by popular demand, for their third year in panto at Sunderland, is the fabulous Miss Rory (Boulevard) as Widow Twankey and the hilarious Tom Whalley as Wishee Washee, with further star casting to be announced.
“Filled with mystical adventure, stunning sets and costumes, a lamp load of comedy and sensational song and dance numbers – join us on magical carpet ride with Aladdin this festive season.
“It’s never too early to make wishes come true so be a genie-us and book your tickets today!”
This announcement comes before this year’s panto has even begun, with rehearsals still taking place.
TV legend Su Pollard takes the starring role of the Wicked Queen, joined by Twankey and Whalley as Nurse Rorina and Muddles the Jester respectively in this year’s Snow White show at the well established empire.
Actors will take to the stage from this Friday through until Sunday January 2, 2022, entertaining theatre-lovers who missed out on the panto last year due to Covid-19.
Tickets went live on sale for the 2022-23 pantomime to ATG Theatre card holders at 10am on Wednesday.
General booking opens at noon this Friday, (December 10) the same day that this year’s festive pantomime launches.
