More than £22,000 has been raised in memory of Frankie and the Heartstrings drummer Dave Harper.
Dave died in hospital on August 25, at the age of 43, leaving his family and friends devastated.
The Sunderland band announced the sad news on Twitter the following day and scores of heartfelt tributes poured in, with many describing Dave as a ‘legend’.
A fundraising page was set up online to support his family and more than £22,000 has been raised.
The crowdfunding page said: “Dave Harper was the drummer in Frankie & The Heartstrings and the manager of Pop Recs LTD.
“Following an unexpected decline in health, Dave passed away on Wednesday 25th of August 2021 at the age of 43. Leaving behind his devoted wife Ruth and little boy Sonny (8).
“No-one saw this coming not least his family, so lets chuck some coffers in the pot and make them feel loved as we loved Dave.”
Numerous tributes were also left in memory of the popular drummer.
One said: “The music and cultural scene in Sunderland has lost one of it’s great Champions. Always willing to help anyone.
“Always had us amused on Tuesday evenings at knitting night and supplied with endless coffee. You will be a massive miss Dave but you will live on in Pop Recs.”
Another wrote: “What a character Dave was, met him more than a few times and always really enjoyed his company.
“Massive fan of the band but also the amazing work he did with the guys for Pop Recs. Condolences and best wishes to his family.”
